What makes this mosque so unique is that it is made entirely of wood (fir, walnut, poplar, elm) and without the use of a single nail! The mosque’s sturdy construction is due to an intricate system of grooves and slashes.
The mosque was built by 30 craftsmen, supervised by an architect named Chow Sze from 1907-1910. The outside is decorated with red, purple, and green paint. The inside contains carvings and ornaments that display various animals from mythological stories that are in place to ensure safety from evil spirits.
