Just north of the capital city of Bishkek, on the edge of the Tien Shan Mountains is a large pile of stones known as the Mountain of Deliverance. A famous doctor, Jenishbek Nazaraliev, used this pile of stones as part of his program to help treat people trying to conquer their drug addiction.

Tashtar Ata: Mountain of Deliverance

Part of the treatment required people to climb the mountain with a large stone and then upon arriving at the pile, transfer their addition to drugs into the stone.  They then leave it there and walk back down the mountain, free to leave their addiction behind and start a new life.

The Mountain of Deliverance is treated like a spiritual place by many.  The area surrounding the stones is tranquil and said to be the connection between many ages: the era of Tamerlane, the conquests of Alexander the Great, times of pagan religious ceremonies, and now a place of hope for this generation to overcome its struggles. There’s even a religious center nearby that was built to promote unity between the religions of Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, and Christianity.
