The village of Sary Tash (3,150 m) is located near the Chinese-Tajik border on the eastern end of the Alay Valley. It’s a small village with a population of roughly 1,500 people. The village offers a couple shop/cafés, a couple guest houses (or guest yurts), and a gas station. From Sary Tash you can get a spectacular view of Peak Lenin (7,134 m).

The Pamir Highway, the world’s second highest international highway, runs through Sary Tash and connects the Kyrgyz city of Osh with Dushanbe and Khorog in Tajikistan.  Another road that runs through Sary Tash is E60 leading to the village of Irkeshtam.  Sary Tash is bordered by Taldyk Pass (3,615 m) to the north and Kyzyl Art Pass (4,250 m) to the south.
