The Sarkent National Park covers over 40,000 hectares of land across the province of Batken. Five exquisite lakes reside within the park as well as several large juniper forests and a diverse array of wildlife including the endangered snow leopard, the lynx, brown bear, and the golden eagle.

There’s a yurt camp in the park that travelers can visit to try some traditional Kyrgyz drinks/food such as kymyz (fermented mare’s milk) and ayran (similar to yogurt) for a taste of nomadic life as well.

Batken Province is one of the least traveled provinces in Kyrgyzstan silk road.  A visit to this national park will take you off the beaten path in Kyrgyzstan to be sure.  Trekking tours are highly recommended in this area.
