The valley was named after a wise healer named Manjyly who would help cure people of various illnesses and diseases. Since medicine was not available during his time, he would procure herbs and other natural forms of treatment for the sick. When he died, the place he was buried is said to have burst forth with these springs that have healing properties.
Each spring is said to cure a different ailment. The Manjyly Ata Valley is now considered a sacred place of pilgrimage.
Manjyly Ata Valley is located between the villages of Ton and Kaji Sai on Lake Issyk Kul’s southern shore and is interspersed with various gorges. This area also contains the mausoleum of a famous miracle worker that tried to spread Islam throughout the nomadic tribes of Kyrgyzstan.
