Lake Kol Ukok sits snugly between two slopes of the Terskey Ala Too Mountains. It’s extremely cold and roughly 17 meters deep. Green meadows surround the lake where you can find a plethora of wildflowers including edelweiss and forget-me-nots.

These meadows are very lush and often used as pastureland by nomadic shepherds from about May to October.

Both rhubarb and wild garlic grow close to the lake.  Wildlife in the surrounding mountains includes mountain goats, foxes, wolves, marmots, badgers, jackals, rabbits, hawks, and eagles.

Horseback riding tours are recommended to the lake. This is also an excellent place to take advantage of cultural Kyrgyzstan tourism packages.  Nomads that live in this area are very friendly and will no doubt give you the opportunity to try some traditional Kyrgyz food and beverages.
