Lake Ai Kel, translated as Moon Lake, is a small, secluded alpine lake (0.82 sq km) on the northern slope of the Turkestan Range. The lake is walled off in sheer cliffs, making an approach nearly impossible, but providing unforgettable views from the surrounding mountain passes.

Lake Ai Kel

Lake Ai Kel is located 2,937 meters asl. Two different streams feed Lake Ai Kel, increasing its water levels in the summer.  In the winter, the lake freezes over. Its depth is unknown.
