Kyzyl Tuu is a village just off of Lake Issyk Kul’s southern shore located about 230 km away from Bishkek. This village is extremely well-known for being the “yurt maker’s village.” It only has a population of about 1,800, but most of the village makes their living by building Kyrgyzstan’s silk road traditional nomadic dwellings called yurts.

Kyzyl-Tuu

Kyzyl Tuu is a fascinating destination for those interested in Kyrgyz nomadic culture who would like to see the yurt building process or even get a demonstration of how to set one up.  Kyzyl Tuu also hosts an annual festival called “Kiyiz Duino” to encourage Kyrgyzstan’s traditional customs that is attended by thousands.

Bokonbaevo has several guesthouses where travelers can stay.

A popular destination just outside Kyzyl Tuu is Salt lake, a lake with a composition similar to that of Israel’s Dead Sea.
