Kyzyl Oi is a unique village in that it was one of the few Kyrgyzstan silk road villages that existed pre-collectivization in the 1900s. Since Kyrgyz people are traditionally nomadic and didn’t typically settle down prior to the Soviets, this village is a bit of a rarity.
Kyzyl Oi is located on the road the runs from the Suusamyr Valley to Kochkor. It’s dozens of kilometers away from any other village, so it acts as a kind of picturesque safe haven in the midst of the mountains.
Hiking, horseback riding, and off-roading are all excellent ways to explore the mountainous terrain around the village.
