Khan Tengri (7,010 m) is Kyrgyzstan’s 3rd highest peak and sits not 7 kilometers from where the Chinese, Kyrgyz, and Kazakh borders all lay. There are more than 25 climbing routes established from the north and south to the summit.

Khan Tengri Peak

Summiting the peak is extremely difficult, but is still attempted by dozens of climbers each year.  At the top of the peak is a capsule that holds a record of each climber’s name that has been successful plus the dates of their climb.  When climbers get to the top, they simply dig it out and all their names and dates of their climbs for posterity and bury it again.

A small camp for climbers is located at the bottom of Khan Tengri.
