The walnut trees in this forest are easily hundreds of years old, 30 meters tall, 2 meters wide, and produce between 200-400 kg of walnuts annually. Legend has it that in 329 BC, Alexander the Great visited these forests, extracted a walnut tree, and brought it to back to Greece. The walnuts from these trees were referred to as “Greek walnuts” from that time on.
The Arslanbob forests also contain over 130 other tree and shrub species. In the Arslanbob Valley you can see orchards bursting with all different kinds of fruits and nuts: cherry, apple, raspberry, plum, pear, currant, almond, pistachio, etc.
Besides the forests and orchards, there are several other nice destinations in the Arslanbob Valley: the Sacred Lake (Lake Kol Mazar), Mount Babash Ata, caves, and 2 waterfalls appropriately named “Big Falls” and “Little Falls.”
