Nikolay Przhevalsky Museum and Memorial Set is situated in a few miles outside the city. The museum keeps the life story of one of the world’s greatest explorers, who died in Karakol in 1888. It is a true testimonial to Russian colonization of Central Asia. All the staff here speaks English. Near to the Nikolay Przhevalsky last resting place the remnants of a Soviet torpedo testing facility is located. Today at the Museum you can find Nikolay Przhevalsky’s paraphernalia, documents, photos and articles. Not far from the Museum there is the traveler’s tomb and monument. The water in Chon-Oruktu thermal springs belong to the chloride-sodium-calcium group. The temperature of water is 48C. Therapeutic indication: liver disease and pancreas, musculoskeletal system diseases, central and periphery neurological system diseases, gynecological disorders, gastrointestinal tract problems, skin diseases. Cholpon-Ata literally means “Venus-father”. It is the name of a mythological protecting spirit. It is a resort town on the northern shore of the Issyk-Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan with a year-round population of about 12,000. Some unique ancient monuments are located in the city of Cholpon-Ata. There are Bronze Age settlement and ancient sacred place under open sky with stone painting. Andronic tribes or Arian tribes (the middle II millennium – VIII century B.C.) gave us the artists who began creating these peculiar art galleries, which consist of thousand petroglyphs. The Saka tribes (VIII-III centuries B.C.) made their contribution for further development of the rock painting. The Saka’s artists created rock drawings in so-called Saka-Scythian animal style of art, which attracts attention with their mastership and realistic images. The latest petroglyphs were dated by Turkic period (VI-IX centuries). Ruh-Ordo is a cultural center and tourists attraction. Place that is worth visiting while being in Cholpon-ata. Place is 4 acres big – outdoor museum of both recent and ancient history of Kyrgyz culture.
