The first place which is very popular among mountaineers is Issyk-Kul area, due to its endless trekking opportunities. Usually, areas near Karakol city offer great options for trekking routes like Dzhety-Oguz, Altyn-
Arashan gorges, Jyrgalan valley and Ala-Kul lake. This destinations are located in a one hour drive from Karakol. Mountains around this gorges and valleys are amazingly beautiful, with changing landscapes, stunning waterfalls and lakes. During hiking through this areas you can camp with your own tents and there is an opportunity to be involved in different activities like horseback riding and taking a bath in hot springs. Because Dzety-Oguz and Altyn-Arashan gorges are famous for their mineral-enriched hot springs. Furthermore, in summer time there are still nomads living in mountains with constructed yurts and big cattles. If you’re anywhere near a yurt camp you will see how locals are open and hospitable, probably you will end up with warm bowl of tea and sweets in a real yurt.
The second place is the Song-Kul lake. It is important to mention that Son-Kul lake is located on the altitude of around 3100 meters and there are several options for hiking available in here. The first hiking itinerary starts from the surrounding villages like Kochkor and Chaek. Hiking can be lasted for several days and the final destination is Song-Kul lake surrounded by mountains without a single tree and poor connection. Once you reach the lake you can stay there in yurt camps walk around the lake meet real yaks and other animals. The second option is trekking around the lake for several days. Local people say you can not find such a beautiful sky full of million stars except in Song-Kul lake. This option is suitable for beginners as well as experienced ones.
The third popular hiking route in Kyrgyzstan is Sary-Chelek lake. From numerous high altitude alpine lakes to lush meadows covered with thousands of different flowers, beautiful 5000-6000 meter peaks, and big landscape contrasts, Sary-Chelek lake is a home to some of the most breathtaking scenery. Here is the most pristine nature, where different wild animals inhabit. We recommend you to take some hiking tours with an experienced guides, because this area full of surprises, as we have mentioned there are different wild animals, quite challenging mountain trails and for sure you will meet very few locals during you hiking or trekking.
