Baku is one of the cities that felt the fastest and biggest changes in the last few decades, and of course it have some interesting things to offer to its visitors. It is not full of clubs and not having an enormous choice of activities, but the one that are there, are totally worth it and beautiful.
Go to the beach
Even if it feels too chilly to you to go for swimming to the beach, still go to enjoy the coastal air and the view. Don’t forget, the marine air is beneficial for both your body and soul; it stimulates your appetite, calms your nervous system and inspire you to do amazing things!
In summer, the sea is perfect for swimming and fishing, Be sure to bring your sunscreen – the sun in Baku is able to burn you instantly.
Go for a walk in the old town
The old town is breathing with authentic, ancient Baku, and while walking its small streets, you get to feel yourself an actor in this movie about aristocrats, love and knights.
Every local will advise you to go to the Maiden’s Tower, Bibi-Heybat Mosque or Heydar Mosque, all these places have an authentic air of reality combined with imagination.
Walk around
Walking around the city can bring you closer to the locals and their amazingly friendly community. Azeri people are very friendly and hospitable, so don’t get shocked when they will invite you to their place, or will offer you some sweets.
A good place to walk and see how the local people have fun, is walking on the Baku boulevard, or pay a visit to the Flame Towers, it’s a must see place in Baku due to their magnificent architecture which makes them look like real flames.
Baku is perhaps one of the most cheap cities in Central Asia and it has a big variety of goods and shopping places, beginning from popular fairs like the one near the airport, called Bina, ending with the bazaars in the city where all the sellers love to bargain, and once you are good at it, you can get a half price or even lower. A good bargain is worth everything to the local sellers.
Go to a wedding
As it was mentioned previously, locals love to invite foreigners even in their houses, so if you see a wedding don’t lose the chance to congratulate the bride and the groom, and who knows? Maybe even get to experience the traditional Azeri wedding, with all the old traditions which are conserved in the region for many hundreds of years!
The life in Baku, Azerbaijan is really diverse and it always shows the perfect combination and harmony between tradition and modernity, the only you have to do, is give it a chance to change your life.
